Why did Sunroom get acquired?
Our team has been building and growing the Sunroom platform for the last 4.5 years. In that time we’ve welcomed 25,000 creators who have collectively earned millions of dollars through the platform. Our goal from Day 1 was to build tooling that makes women & non-binary content creators as much money as possible. When the opportunity to join forces with Fanfix arose, we were incredibly excited to expand this mission in partnership with a platform that is a leader in our space — with 80M users and much greater brand awareness than Sunroom. In deciding about the move, we asked ourselves:
- Will our creators earn more money on Fanfix?
- Will our members have a more enjoyable content viewing and chatting experience?
- Are Fanfix’s community guidelines aligned with Sunroom’s guidelines?
- Does Fanfix treat their users with the same respect and personal touch that we do?
Ultimately, the answer to all those questions was a resounding “YES”.
We’re making this move because we strongly believe that the Sunroom community will be better served in the long-run by the Fanfix team and platform.
Who is Fanfix?
Fanfix was founded in 2021 by TikTok creator Cameron Dallas, and the platform publicly launched in 2022. Fanfix is a much larger platform than Sunroom. Over $200M has been paid out to their creators on their platform since its launch, and they’ve amassed 15M users. The content shared on Fanfix is “brand-friendly”, meaning it does not contain explicit content (similar to Sunroom’s policy). Fanfix is home to a diverse range of lifestyle creators, podcasters, vloggers, musicians, comedians, cosplay creators, and streamers. On average, Fanfix creators earn more than Sunroom creators—owing to their broad feature set, strong brand awareness, and vast customer base. Many of the features Sunroom users have been requesting are already built on Fanfix. See here for the breakdown of Fanfix’s features (hello post scheduling and live streaming!).
Fanfix has a much larger team than us, with dozens of creator coaches and strategists assisting their creators to maximize their earnings. Their team is based in Los Angeles (just like ours), and they care deeply about the safety and success of their creators.
What does this mean for creator earnings & content?
Until September 10th, 2025, you will have the opportunity to transition your Sunroom account to Fanfix. We’ve designed the transition to be as smooth as possible for you and your members. When you update the Sunroom app, you’ll see a banner containing information about the transition and a “Claim Fanfix Profile” button. When you claim your Fanfix profile, we’ll transfer the following to your Fanfix profile:
- All grid content and DM content
- All historical chat messages (migration happening in a few days)
- Your main profile info (username, bio, and profile picture)
- An equivalent membership tier will be created for you on Fanfix
At that moment we will stop transferring your historical data to Fanfix. However, you may continue to run your Sunroom account, earn money, and trigger payouts. Although we strongly advise you to begin using your Fanfix account from there on out.
After you have tapped the “Claim Fanfix Profile” button, you will be navigated to Fanfix and automatically logged in. If you used your Apple or Google sign-in to log into Sunroom, you won’t need to reset your password. If you are a member and used your phone number to log into Sunroom, you will need to reach out to Fanfix's customer service by going to your Profile > Contact Support and request that they update the email associated with your account. If you are a creator and used your phone number to log into Sunroom, you can reach out to Fanfix's support by going to Navigation > Contact Us. After updating your email, reset your password here.
If any subscribers continue going to your Sunroom profile after you’ve transitioned, Sunroom will redirect them to your new Fanfix profile. If you do not claim your Fanfix profile by September 10th, 2025, you will not be able to transition your content, messages, and profile info from Sunroom to Fanfix.
The goal of the transition is to have minimal impact on your earnings and then to increase your earnings within your first few weeks on Fanfix. Please check out this guide on how to communicate the transition to your members.
How will the transition work for members?
Sunroom members will be notified that any creator they’re actively supporting will be moving to Fanfix, and they’ll be encouraged to claim their own Fanfix profile via the same “Claim my Profile” banner in the Sunroom platform. Their new Fanfix profile will contain all the content they purchased on Sunroom, historical DM’s, and any time remaining on active memberships with creators who have transitioned to Fanfix.
How are prepaid memberships on Sunroom handled in the transition to Fanfix?
- On Fanfix, creators can have multiple membership tiers, each with different prices, discounts, and benefits. Subscribers can also get discounts by purchasing multiple months of a subscription upfront.
- If a Sunroom creator transitions to Fanfix, their members will get all of their previously posted grid content + access to any new grid content for the remainder of whatever membership cycle they were previously on. For example, if a member was 20 days into their membership cycle when the creator switches, the member will continue to enjoy the next 10 days without paying more.
- Members should add their card information to Fanfix & restart the membership as soon as possible.
- If the creator chooses not to transition to Fanfix and wants to partially refund members who are part-way through a membership cycle at the end of the 30-day transition period, the partial refunds will be covered by Sunroom. Only memberships purchased on the web can be refunded (we unfortunately don’t have the ability to refund purchases made via the iOS and Android app). If this applies to you, reach out to support@sunroom.so.
What happens if a Sunroom member does not want to use Fanfix?
- Members will be able to claim their Fanfix profile via the banner in the Sunroom platform. If the creators from whom they have purchased content also transition to Fanfix, the member will see all of the content they previously bought in their gallery on Fanfix. If a creator from whom they have purchased content does not join Fanfix, they will no longer have access to that content.
- If a Sunroom member wishes to claim their Fanfix profile after the 30-day transition period, they may be able to do so by contacting hello@fanfix.io.
Does Fanfix have a mobile app?
- No, they don’t. Instead, Fanfix is highly optimized for browsing on mobile devices. We encourage you to “pin” the website as an app icon on your iPhone. This makes it very similar to using a native mobile app. Fanfix web-only platform allows for faster conversion from profile viewers to paid subscribers.
- One of the big advantages of using an entirely web-based subscription platform is that your members won’t be upcharged to account for Apple and Google’s fees. This means no more Sunbeams and no more having two different prices attached to all your offerings!
How does Fanfix protect against content leaks?
- Fanfix gives creators the option to apply watermarks on their content. Watermarks both deter content leakers and give Fanfix the ability to track and ban anyone who does leak watermarked content.
- Fanfix performs DMCA takedowns on behalf of their creators in the event of a leak.
- Fanfix doesn’t yet support DRM; however, they are a few weeks away from launching screenshot blocking (just like SunBlock) on all video content. Fanfix will follow shortly afterwards with screenshot blocking for images.
How will I get help going forward?
Lucy and Michelle (Sunroom’s founders) have joined Fanfix as advisors and will continue to be the point of contact for all Sunroom creators’ first year on Fanfix. We’re continuing to utilize the sunroom.so Instagram account to chat with our creators and field any issues. We will also introduce creators to members of the Fanfix team so they can get even more support and strategy from their crew of content monetization experts. We’re hosting workshops on Thursday August 14th, to educate our creators on using the Fanfix platform. Please register for a workshop here. We’ve added a section to our Help Center, all about the transition. Feel free to refer to that at any point, or simply DM us on Instagram with your questions.
Members should contact hello@fanfix.io with any questions.
It has been such a privilege to build Sunroom in partnership with our creators and their members over the years. We’re so proud of the community we’ve created together. Thank you for trusting us with your content, your audiences, and your vulnerability. We’re so excited for this next chapter with Fanfix. We know it’s going to be a financially meaningful move for our community of creators and an enhanced content experience for our members.
